Position Summary
Thermo Fisher Scientific is undertaking a strategic Data Platform Transformation within MSD Services to modernize its data architecture and enable scalable digital services, analytics and future AI capabilities.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of the implementation and migration program. The role will coordinate cross-functional teams across MSD Services and Corporate IT/Enterprise Data Platform teams to ensure the transformation is delivered to agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality.
The role requires strong technology transformation and migration experience, with sufficient knowledge of cloud and modern data platforms to effectively manage technical teams, risks and dependencies.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
Project Planning & Governance
· Own the integrated implementation and migration plan, including milestones, dependencies, resources and critical path.
· Establish project governance, RACI, delivery cadence and executive reporting.
· Maintain RAID, decision and change-control processes.
· Track delivery against scope, schedule, budget and agreed outcomes.
· Manage resource and capacity requirements across participating teams.
Implementation & Migration Delivery
· Coordinate readiness of the Data Platform for production workloads.
· Lead planning and execution of D2i (device telemetry) and BI/data warehouse migrations.
· Establish migration waves, priorities, entry/exit criteria and delivery milestones.
· Coordinate activities across Prepare, Design, Plan, Migrate, Go Live and Aftercare.
· Manage testing, data reconciliation, UAT, defect resolution and production readiness.
· Own integrated cutover planning, migration runbooks and go/no-go governance.
· Coordinate legacy decommissioning following successful migration.
Stakeholder & Dependency Management
· Act as the central coordination point across MSD Services, EDP/Corporate IT and technical teams.
· Manage cross-team dependencies, decisions, risks and escalations.
· Facilitate planning sessions, delivery reviews and steering meetings.
· Provide clear and concise status reporting to senior leadership.
· Ensure business continuity and stakeholder requirements are considered throughout migration.
Operational Transition
· Ensure operational readiness is incorporated into migration planning.
· Coordinate documentation, runbooks and knowledge transfer.
· Manage handover to the long-term Run & Maintain / DevOps organization.
· Ensure appropriate support and monitoring arrangements are established before go-live.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
· 8+ years project/program management experience delivering complex enterprise technology transformations.
· Demonstrated experience leading data, cloud, data warehouse or application migration programs.
· Strong project planning, critical-path, dependency and risk-management skills.
· Experience managing multi-workstream programs with distributed/onshore-offshore delivery teams.
· Strong financial, resource and delivery management capability.
· Proven experience managing testing, production cutover and operational transition.
· Strong stakeholder management across business, engineering and enterprise IT organizations.
· Ability to drive accountability and delivery across teams without direct organizational authority.
Technical Knowledge
Sufficient technical knowledge to effectively manage and challenge engineering teams, preferably covering:
· Modern data platforms / Lakehouse architecture.
· Databricks and AWS or comparable technologies.
· Data lakes, data warehouses and ETL/ELT.
· Data migration, testing and reconciliation.
· CI/CD and DevOps.
· Data governance, security and data quality.
Technical architecture or engineering expertise is not required; the role is accountable for successful program delivery.
Key Measures of Success
· Delivery against agreed scope, schedule and budget.
· Successful migration of D2i and BI workloads.
· Predictable milestones, resource requirements and financial forecasts.
· Effective management of cross-team dependencies and risks.
· Production cutovers with minimal business/customer disruption.
· Successful operational handover and knowledge transfer.
· Controlled retirement of legacy capabilities following migration.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
· PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project-management certification preferred.
· Agile / SAFe experience desirable.
· Previous experience delivering a major data-platform or cloud transformation within a large global organization strongly preferred.
