About the role

We file this job under Data Leadership, by the work the posting describes.

Data leaders run data teams or design how a company's data fits together. Managers hire, set priorities and answer for whether the data work pays off; architects choose the systems and the shape of the data.

Expect years of hands-on data work, experience leading people or projects, and the ability to explain tradeoffs to executives.

Unlike a senior engineer or analyst, most of a data leader's week goes to people, planning and decisions rather than building.

Role Summary

We are seeking an Associate Director of Patient and Commercial Analytics to lead complex analytics engagements that help pharma and biotech clients understand patient journeys, optimize commercial performance, and make better decisions across brand, market access, and sales strategy. You will own client relationships and project outcomes across patient-level and market-level analytics, from data strategy and cohort design through forecasting, segmentation, and commercial insight delivery. You will also lead a cross-functional group of consultants, data scientists, and analysts, and serve as a senior advisor to commercial and medical leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own strategic client relationships and serve as the primary senior point of contact for commercial, brand, and market access leaders on analytics programs.

  • Lead patient journey analytics using claims, EHR, specialty pharmacy, hub, and patient support program data, including patient identification, lines of therapy, treatment sequencing, persistence, and adherence analysis.

  • Direct commercial analytics work covering sales force effectiveness, territory and customer segmentation, call plan optimization, forecasting, and launch performance tracking using IQVIA, Symphony, and similar data sources.

  • Design and oversee segmentation, targeting, and prioritization frameworks for HCPs, HCOs, and payers, linking patient-level insights to commercial action.

  • Define analytical scope, methodology, and deliverables for complex, multi-workstream engagements, ensuring rigor, reproducibility, and clear documentation.

  • Partner with the firm's attribution and measurement practice to integrate patient and commercial insights with MTA, MMM, and incrementality work.

  • Build and manage the business: scope and price proposals, forecast utilization and revenue, manage project budgets, and drive growth within existing client accounts.

  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and consultants, including staffing, performance management, and career development.

  • Contribute to thought leadership, proprietary tools, and the firm's analytics accelerators in patient and commercial analytics.

  • Ensure all work complies with applicable regulations and internal standards, including the PhRMA Code, OPDP guidance, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 where applicable, and regional privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA.

  • Lead advanced analytics use cases with clear business value, such as predictive patient finding, predictive segmentation, likely-to-switch or likely-to-discontinue models, and next-best-action inputs. Take each from proof of concept to scaled client delivery.

  • Apply GenAI to speed up delivery and strengthen client offerings. Examples include extracting clinical detail from unstructured EHR notes, AI-assisted coding and QC, and conversational insight tools for brand teams. Make sure each use follows client data privacy and responsible-AI standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 9 or more years of experience in pharma, healthcare, or life sciences analytics, with significant time in patient-level or commercial analytics.

  • At least 3 years in a leadership role managing managers or senior teams in a client-service or consulting environment.

  • Deep expertise in pharma data sources, including claims (e.g., IQVIA, Symphony, Komodo), EHR, specialty pharmacy, and patient support program data, and an understanding of their strengths and biases.

  • Proven track record delivering patient journey, segmentation, forecasting, or sales force effectiveness work that drove measurable client decisions.

  • Track record of using machine learning and GenAI in pharma analytics, and of turning these into reusable assets or new offerings for clients

  • Strong analytical foundation in statistics and data modeling, with working proficiency in SQL and at least one of Python or R.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain executive-level client relationships and to influence commercial and medical leadership.

  • Experience with business development, proposal leadership, or P&L responsibility in a consulting or agency setting.

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative or business discipline. An advanced degree (MS, MBA, PhD, or PharmD/MPH) is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with patient-level data in rare disease, oncology, immunology, or other specialty therapeutic areas.

  • Familiarity with hub services, patient support programs, and specialty pharmacy operations.

  • Background in launch analytics, market access, or payer analytics.

  • Publications, conference presentations, or industry thought leadership on patient or commercial analytics.

Core Competencies

  • Strategic leadership: Connects analytics work to brand and business strategy and anticipates client needs.

  • Client influence: Builds trust with senior executives and guides decisions with clear, defensible recommendations.

  • Team development: Grows managers and consultants, sets high standards, and builds a culture of rigor and ownership.

  • Business acumen: Understands pharma P&L drivers, launch dynamics, and the commercial decisions analytics must support.

  • Operational excellence: Balances scope, quality, and profitability across a portfolio of engagements.
