About the role

We file this job under Analyst, by the work the posting describes.

Analysts answer business questions with data. They pull numbers with SQL, build reports and dashboards, and explain what changed and why to the people making decisions.

Most postings ask for SQL, spreadsheets, a dashboard tool such as Tableau or Power BI, and clear writing.

Unlike a data scientist, an analyst mostly explains what happened rather than building models that predict what will.

SEI Novus helps institutional investors turn complex investment data into actionable intelligence. Our platform aggregates, validates, and manages data across public and private markets, giving investors a complete view of their portfolios.

We bring together data from custodians, administrators, general partners, accounting systems, and other providers into a single platform for performance measurement, portfolio analytics, benchmarking, private markets reporting, and dashboarding.

Through automation and scalable workflows, we help investors improve transparency, reduce operational complexity, uncover meaningful insights, and make more informed investment decisions. Ultimately, our goal is to help clients better understand their portfolios, communicate outcomes effectively, and focus more time on managing risk and pursuing opportunities.

What you will do:

  • Organize, integrate, aggregate, validate and reconcile Hedge Fund and Fund of Fund portfolio data on the proprietary Novus platform.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot discrepancies across complex, large-scale data sets and databases, tracing data through the platform to identify root causes and drive issues to resolution.
  • Develop a deep understanding of how financial data flows through the Novus platform, using that knowledge to diagnose issues, assess downstream impacts and implement accurate, sustainable resolutions.
  • Support data scrubbing needs for reporting, analysis and projects as required.
  • Using our current processes and creating new ones, you will deliver high quality data in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Apply data mining and investigative skills while working directly with clients, custodians, administrators and other third-party providers to clarify source data, resolve discrepancies and rectify data quality issues.
  • Validate data quality and support the Client Management Team with ad hoc requests and internal projects.

What we need from you:

  • Work Experience: Relevant experience working with financial data sets preferred.
  • Experience working with SQL is preferred.
  • Educational background: A degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or a similar field is preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills/Communication: You are a strong verbal and written communicator, whether discussing clients’ portfolios, current financial trends, and ability to articulate complex calculations or ideas into digestible concepts.
  • Analytical and investigative skills: Ability to analyze large data sets and portfolios, reconcile information across multiple sources, identify patterns and exceptions, and determine the root cause of data discrepancies.
  • Attention to detail: You apply an exceptionally high level of precision when reviewing, reconciling and validating data, and you consistently follow issues through to a complete and accurate resolution.
  • Organizational skills: You are comfortable managing competing client demands and deadlines and know how to prioritize, manage expectations and deliver results.
  • Interests: Demonstrated desire to work in the Finance & Investment space evidenced by regularly reading books and keeping up with current financial & economic trends.

What we would like from you:

We expect our team members to deliver on their responsibilities and understand how each and every component of our company works to generate our collective success. We hold ourselves and our colleagues accountable to the highest standards. If the following sounds like you, we look forward to getting to know you—

  • You do not want to “just work;” you want to be a part of something bigger and have an impact.
  • You drive yourself and others around you to become better.
  • You have a passion to know more and challenge yourself and others to look at problems from new and different perspectives.
  • You thrive in a smaller environment and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with teams across the organization.
  • You know that constructive criticism, whether about you or from you, is about improving yourself, your team, and your company.
  • You are not afraid to share your opinions, offer, or ask for help.
  • You bring exceptional attention to detail and enjoy digging into Excel models and data sets, reconciling information and figuring out how the pieces work together.
