About the role

We file this job under Data Scientist, by the work the posting describes.

Data scientists use statistics and models to answer harder questions, such as whether a change worked, what demand will look like next quarter, or which customers are likely to leave.

Postings usually ask for Python or R, SQL, statistics, experiment design and common machine learning methods.

Unlike an ML engineer, a data scientist's main output is often an analysis or a first model, not software running inside a product.

What You'll Do:

We are looking for a highly motivated Customer Insights Partner to act as a front-line strategic partner to our largest, most complex and strategically important clients, as well as to our commercial teams, from our Tokyo office. As part of a passionate team, you must thrive in a start-up environment, be proactive, detail-oriented and eager to learn and keep up with quickly evolving product landscape.

We sit between the business and technology groups, unveiling the magic of the Criteo engine for our local teams and for our clients, and transforming Big Data into Smart Data. You’ll be given access to one of the world’s biggest datasets, and the computing power to exploit it.

Working closely with commercial and technical teams, we provide actionable recommendations based on high quality analysis and understanding of our industry and product, in order to meet the objectives from our clients and grow our business together. Our initiatives have concrete and measurable impacts. As a trusted, client-facing advisor, you will identify revenue opportunities, improve client outcomes and influence client investment decisions.

We get to play with exciting technologies and solutions such as Hadoop, Vertica, Tableau or Python to grow the portfolio of analysis that we offer to internal and external stakeholders. We are always excited to take initiatives and enjoy starting from an idea, translate it into a complex data analysis, develop the results with our commercial partners and present it with them to our clients.

  • Act as a trusted, client-facing advisor to large, complex and strategic clients in business reviews, strategic discussions and performance conversations, and work with commercial partners to translate client and business needs into actionable insights, recommendations and tailored analytics solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal support team for development of solutions, and oversee the process, ensuring solutions are built according to specifications and meet our commercial partners’/clients’ expectations.
  • Provide actionable insight and recommendations to our commercial partners to maximize our business impact with a mid-term strategic thinking which contributes to nurture expansion of our newest solutions; identify opportunities to grow revenue, increase client investment, improve retention and expand adoption of Criteo solutions
  • Deep-dive to actively provide analytics insights and propose optimization scenarios to our key clients to reach their KPIs and maximize their satisfaction, in close link with your commercial partners and other internal support teams. Build compelling, data-backed narratives, explain performance and market trends to technical and non-technical audiences, and proactively drive agreed next steps through to completion
  • Develop and apply your analytics skills by deep-diving on our data and coming up with advanced analysis, models, automation schemes and projects leveraging on SQL, Tableau, Python, AI tools and other technologies to maximize impact and scalability
  • Be seen by commercial partners and clients as a proactive strategic partner, not only an analytics resource: spot issues and opportunities early, take ownership and follow through to measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g. LLMs, AI coding and analysis assistants) to speed up data investigation and automate repeatable analysis, always validating AI outputs before sharing them with clients.

Who You Are:

  • Your work experience: At least 3 years in an analytical/consulting role or equivalent experience; Good understanding of internet advertising (cookies, DSP, SSP, RTB, etc.) will be a big plus. Experience in a client-facing, consulting, customer success or commercial strategy environment, and experience in ad tech, retail media, ecommerce or performance marketing, are strongly valued
  • Your academic background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative or business field (Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Finance, Engineering)
  • Your Analytics skills: You are knowledgeable and passionate about Analytics in areas such as statistics and predictive approaches
  • Your technical skills: You are comfortable with working with databases using SQL, and are a fast learner eager to learn new skills when necessary; big bonus point if you have experience in Tableau, Python, Dataflow, AI tools, or ready to learn these skills in a short time
  • Your business skills: You have strong business acumen and connect analysis to revenue, client objectives and commercial outcomes; you are client focused, able to influence and convey clear messages and straightforward recommendations to other people, in addition to proficiency in stakeholder management ; client-facing experience is expected, including presenting recommendations to senior clients or commercial decision-makers
  • Your language skills: You have strong Japanese communication skills and confidence engaging directly with Japanese clients and local stakeholders in daily business and client situations; professional working proficiency in English is essential for collaboration with colleagues from other markets, as many internal resources, documentation and tools are in English
  • Your personality: You have a proactive, front-line mindset: you identify what needs to happen, take ownership and follow through; you are versatile, autonomous, able to multi-task and prioritize, and work effectively in ambiguous situations; you like to interact and collaborate with people from various backgrounds, mindsets and cultures

We acknowledge that many candidates may not meet every single role requirement listed above. If your experience looks a little different from our requirements but you believe that you can still bring value to the role, we’d love to see your application!
