About the role

We file this job under Analyst, by the work the posting describes.

Analysts answer business questions with data. They pull numbers with SQL, build reports and dashboards, and explain what changed and why to the people making decisions.

Most postings ask for SQL, spreadsheets, a dashboard tool such as Tableau or Power BI, and clear writing.

Unlike a data scientist, an analyst mostly explains what happened rather than building models that predict what will.

2️⃣ Two roles available! Permanent and 12-month fixed term
📍 Based at East Maitland with hybrid working arrangements after training

🎓 Graduates welcome

Start your data career with purpose

At Pacific Smiles Group, we open our dental centres every day for one reason: to improve the oral health of all Australians to world’s best.

Behind that sits a data platform that more than 120 dental centres depend on. Finance, Payroll, People & Culture, Marketing, Clinical Support and Practice teams all use it every day.

We’re growing our IT Data Engineering team and have two Data Analyst roles available:

  • One permanent, full-time role
  • One 12-month fixed-term role - full time hours

You can start now or in January 2027, so if you’re finishing your studies this year, we’d love to hear from you!

About the role

These are hands-on roles in a small, collaborative team that reports to the Data Office Manager. You’ll help keep our data, reporting and integrations running smoothly. You’ll also be part of a major modernisation project, moving us from a traditional data warehouse to a modern lakehouse on Microsoft Fabric.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Monitor daily data pipelines and refreshes, and fix issues when they come up
  • Help business users with reporting questions, data discrepancies and access requests
  • Build and improve Power BI reports and semantic models
  • Develop and test data transformations across our lakehouse layers
  • Help migrate legacy warehouse objects and reports, checking data quality as you go
  • Use Git, CI/CD and AI-assisted development tools as part of everyday work, with every change peer reviewed
  • Write documentation and runbooks so knowledge is shared across the team

Every piece of work starts with understanding the business problem, so you’ll learn how data creates value, not just how to move it.

About you

We’re looking for curious, motivated people with 0–2 years’ experience. Recent graduates in data, IT, computer science, business analytics, maths or a related field are encouraged to apply. You’ll bring:

  • SQL skills, from study, projects or work (joins, aggregations, window functions)
  • Some exposure to a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau
  • An understanding of data modelling concepts like fact and dimension tables
  • A methodical approach to troubleshooting and checking data
  • Clear communication, including explaining data issues to non-technical people
  • A genuine interest in learning, and openness to feedback and peer review
  • Respect for data privacy and confidentiality

Experience with Python or PySpark, Microsoft Fabric or Databricks, Git, AI coding assistants, or a certification like PL-300 or DP-600 is a bonus, but not essential. We’ll help you build these skills.

Are we what you’re looking for?
