Job description
Is this role for you?
You’ll build and lead the data engineering capability for 5 Streaming in-house. You’ll own the pipelines, data models and quality controls that join streaming, advertising, marketing and registration data into a single trusted view of content and audience performance.
What you will be doing?
- Own the design, build and operation of the data pipelines and data models that power all streaming reporting, dashboards and analysis.
- Establish a single joined view of content and audience performance, by creating a common identity and content spine across behavioural, advertising, marketing and registration data.
- Own the definition and reconciliation of core streaming metrics and codify the business logic across business systems.
- Own analytics implementation and tagging governance across all streaming platforms. You’ll cover technical specification creation, naming standards and defect prioritisation, working closely with product, technology and QA teams.
- Establish data quality monitoring, alerting and scorecards across all streaming data sources, with defined thresholds, clear ownership and escalation routes.
- Establish an experimentation capability, providing templated test setup, instrumentation standards and analysis patterns so that product and marketing teams can run and interpret tests autonomously.
- Build in-house data modelling capacity for churn prediction, reactivation, ad targeting, segmentation and personalisation.
- Own the technical data roadmap, identifying AI and automation opportunities to improve the accuracy, timeliness and cost of the data stack.
- Work alongside Skydance data teams as their technical data counterpart, and provide technical direction to the analytics team.
- Own data governance for streaming datasets, working closely with the privacy and information security teams so that compliance is built into every data workflow.
What are we looking for?
Essential
- Senior level experience in data engineering, including time as the sole or lead technical owner of a data platform, with hands-on delivery alongside roadmap ownership, vendor management and the ability to translate technical constraints for commercial, marketing and editorial stakeholders.
- Expert SQL and Python, with production experience designing, building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines at scale.
- Deep hands-on experience of a modern cloud data warehouse and its associated transformation and orchestration tooling.
- Strong working knowledge of digital and product analytics platforms, including event tracking implementation across web, mobile and connected TV.
- Demonstrable experience joining behavioural, advertising and CRM datasets, and resolving identity and metric definitions across sources that count users differently.
- Track record of establishing data quality monitoring, governance and trusted metric definitions in an environment where none previously existed.
- Practical knowledge of A/B testing methodology and statistical analysis, with experience building experimentation capability for non-technical teams.
Nice to have
- Background in streaming, broadcast or media, with a working understanding of streaming and commercial performance metrics.
- Experience of advertising, attribution and quality-of-experience platforms.
- Experience applying machine learning to churn, propensity, segmentation or recommendation problems.
- Experience applying AI tooling to data engineering, reporting or forecasting workflows.
- Experience of in-housing previously outsourced capability, and of working alongside central data functions within a large group organisation.
