About the role

We file this job under Data Scientist, by the work the posting describes.

Data scientists use statistics and models to answer harder questions, such as whether a change worked, what demand will look like next quarter, or which customers are likely to leave.

Postings usually ask for Python or R, SQL, statistics, experiment design and common machine learning methods.

Unlike an ML engineer, a data scientist's main output is often an analysis or a first model, not software running inside a product.

National Grid is hiring a Data Product Manager to join our Performance and Digital team in Network Operations and Intelligence, based in Warwick, with hybrid working and travel to our London offices as needed to collaborate with wider teams and stakeholders.

About The Role

As a Data Product Manager, you’ll take ownership of data products from initial concept through to delivery and across the full product lifecycle.

Working in an agile environment, you’ll ensure products are delivered to the right standards for quality, safety and sustainability, while keeping a clear focus on performance, cost, return on investment and timelines.

  • Manage the effective use and application of a variety of data-driven techniques, including data engineering, data visualisation for data storytelling and analysis, and data science and analytical techniques to identify unique relationships between variables. You’ll also identify opportunities to use machine learning algorithms and AI to generate insight, improve decision-making and create business value
  • Lead requirements definition and prioritisation for complex initiatives, working with stakeholders to understand different needs, manage competing priorities and reach agreement on the best way forward.
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation, acting as a key point of contact and bringing together technical, data and business stakeholders to enable effective decision-making.
  • Select and apply the right product development approaches, using agile and iterative ways of working where appropriate to drive effective delivery.
  • Coordinate product trials, launches, communications and training, helping ensure new products are successfully adopted by their users.
  • Anticipate changing customer and user needs, adapting products accordingly and developing effective transition or retirement plans when required.
  • Develop financial plans and forecasts, monitor expenditure and ensure investment is focused on delivering the greatest value and return.
  • Define how product benefits and success will be measured, tracking outcomes against the business case and ensuring expected benefits are realised.
  • Plan and manage the resources needed to deliver your product roadmap, working with internal teams and external partners where required.
  • Bring cross-functional teams together to solve problems, agree priorities and deliver shared outcomes.
  • Lead, support and develop individuals and teams, setting clear objectives, providing regular feedback and creating an environment where people can perform at their best.

About You
