About the role

We file this job under Data Scientist, by the work the posting describes.

Data scientists use statistics and models to answer harder questions, such as whether a change worked, what demand will look like next quarter, or which customers are likely to leave.

Postings usually ask for Python or R, SQL, statistics, experiment design and common machine learning methods.

Unlike an ML engineer, a data scientist's main output is often an analysis or a first model, not software running inside a product.

Are you an experienced Data Scientist who is passionate about using data, advanced analytics and machine learning to improve business decision-making — and ultimately help deliver greater impact for dogs and animal welfare?
We’re looking for a Data Scientist to join our Data Engineering team, turning complex data into insight, predictions and practical recommendations that help Dogs Trust make better decisions.

What does this role do?

As Data Scientist, you'll:
  • develop propensity and segmentation models to support better business decisions,
  • apply statistical and machine-learning techniques to identify patterns, predict outcomes and uncover actionable insight,
  • design, develop and operationalise machine-learning models and analytical data products,
  • lead end-to-end analytics and AI projects focused on real business challenges and measurable value,
  • work closely with stakeholders, including senior leaders, to turn complex findings into clear recommendations and action.
Screening calls for this role are provisionally scheduled for week commencing 23rd November 2026, with panel interviews the following week.

Could this be you?

You’ll combine strong Data Science and analytical skills with business thinking and excellent stakeholder management. We’re particularly interested in how you’ve used data to solve real problems, influence decisions and deliver tangible outcomes. Your experience could come from any sector. What matters is your ability to understand a business challenge, identify where advanced analytics can add value and communicate your recommendations clearly. At Dogs Trust, you’ll use Data Science to help us work smarter, make better decisions and ultimately deliver greater impact for dogs and animal welfare.

What does this team do?

You’ll be part of a skilled and supportive IT team that values curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. We work across a variety of exciting initiatives; from developing digital platforms that help dog owners to enhancing volunteer and data systems that expand our impact. Our culture is friendly, flexible, and purpose-driven, with most of your time spent working from home and regular, focused collaboration days in our London office. It’s an environment where people share ideas, learn from each other, and take pride in building technology that truly makes a difference.
