About the role

We file this job under Data Leadership, by the work the posting describes.

Data leaders run data teams or design how a company's data fits together. Managers hire, set priorities and answer for whether the data work pays off; architects choose the systems and the shape of the data.

Expect years of hands-on data work, experience leading people or projects, and the ability to explain tradeoffs to executives.

Unlike a senior engineer or analyst, most of a data leader's week goes to people, planning and decisions rather than building.

Reporting to the appropriate Supply Chain technology leader, you will provide senior technical leadership for data engineering, data architecture, and domain modeling across the Supply Chain Value Stream. You will translate business priorities into a practical data architecture roadmap and guide teams in delivering trusted, governed, reusable data products that support analytics, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making. You will partner across Supply Chain, business analytics, and Information Technology Shared Services supporting Catalyst and other projects, while mentoring architects and engineers and influencing technical direction without formal people management responsibility.

A Taste of Your Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the Supply Chain data strategy and architecture roadmap in partnership with portfolio, business, analytics, and Information Technology Shared Services teams.
  • Serve as a technical lead for System Analysts, Data Engineers, and Senior Data Engineers supporting Supply Chain, providing guidance through design discussions, code reviews, hands-on prototyping, and technical mentorship.
  • Lead technical discussions and influence delivery approaches across portfolios while aligning execution with domain roadmaps and enterprise standards.
  • Coach solution and functional architects on data strategy, domain modeling, data-product design, architecture trade-offs, and the early incorporation of data requirements into solution designs.
  • Lead the design and evolution of conceptual, logical, and physical data models for Supply Chain.
  • Translate Supply Chain and Innovation business processes into curated, reusable data products by defining the business entities, relationships, and data required to represent those processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to build teams through design reviews and solution sign-off, validating approaches through hands-on prototyping.
  • Ensure data models align with enterprise definitions, key performance indicators, and governance standards.
  • Partner with Data Architects and governance teams to incorporate data lineage, metadata, data quality, security, and access requirements into data products.
  • Assess enterprise data standards and guardrails against Supply Chain needs, document gaps, and partner with Information Technology Shared Services to enhance or establish appropriate standards.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of scalable data pipelines supporting Supply Chain domain data products.
  • Guide implementation of SQL transformations, data-processing logic, and performance optimization.
  • Ensure pipelines and transformations are developed and operated as code using continuous integration, continuous delivery, and development operations practices.
  • Drive data-quality checks and observability to help teams identify data issues, monitor pipeline health, and support solutions after initial delivery.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Analytics, and Data Science teams to align data products with business needs.
  • Partner closely with the business analytics group on a roadmap of technical requirement changes, including new features, capabilities, and guidance for the data and analytics ecosystem. Translate technology changes into actionable technical requirements and clear business impacts, and coordinate transition planning.
  • Collaborate with Automation and AI Enablement Engineers so AI solutions consume governed domain data.
  • Shape data products and pipelines for advanced analytics and AI use cases with appropriate quality, metadata, lineage, security, and access considerations.
  • Participate in domain-level planning, design reviews, and dependency-management discussions.
  • Evaluate alternative data designs based on data structure, performance, cost, and time to value, and recommend cost-aware solutions for Supply Chain data workloads.
  • Help drive measurable reuse of domain data products, adoption of the Supply Chain data roadmap, earlier consideration of data requirements in solution designs, and achievement of data-quality service levels for priority datasets.

Ingredients Required for Your Success

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Eight or more years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related roles, including three or more years in an architecture or technical-lead role.
  • Demonstrated experience guiding data engineers through technical mentorship and delivery leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching architects and influencing technical decisions without formal authority.
  • Strong expertise in data modeling for complex operational domains; Supply Chain or Manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL, Python, and data-transformation techniques.
  • Deep, recent hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and Palantir.
  • Experience developing curated datasets and domain-oriented data products.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage, metadata management, security, and access controls.
  • Experience applying development operations and continuous integration and continuous delivery practices to data pipelines.
  • Experience preparing governed, reusable data for machine learning, generative artificial intelligence, or other advanced analytics use cases is preferred.
  • Experience evaluating data architectures based on performance, cost, maintainability, and time to value.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts and trade-offs to engineering and business audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
