Demand for Analyst roles

New Analyst postings at the employers we follow are up 19% over the last 5 weeks compared with the 5 before.

Weekly new Analyst postings at the same employers, from the week of August 17 to the week of October 26. The fewest in a week was 965, the most 1,388, and the latest week had 1,365.

Counted from the hiring pages we’ve followed for at least five weeks, so employers we add don’t look like growth. Updated weekly.

About the role

We file this job under Analyst, by the work the posting describes.

Analysts answer business questions with data. They pull numbers with SQL, build reports and dashboards, and explain what changed and why to the people making decisions.

Most postings ask for SQL, spreadsheets, a dashboard tool such as Tableau or Power BI, and clear writing.

Unlike a data scientist, an analyst mostly explains what happened rather than building models that predict what will.

Position Description

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is seeking a detail‑oriented and mission‑driven Data Analyst to help transform data into insights that strengthen our programs, engagement, and organizational strategy on our Impact Team. This role works across teams to analyze data, build clear reports and dashboards, and communicate findings that support informed decision‑making in a Jewish nonprofit setting.

The ideal candidate is analytically strong, communicates clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences, and values using data in service of community impact.

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection & Management

  • Collect, clean, validate, and maintain data from multiple sources (surveys, CRM systems, program databases, spreadsheets, and external data sources).
  • Manage and document datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and long‑term usability.
  • Support best practices for data governance, privacy, and ethical data use, particularly when handling sensitive community or donor information.

Analysis & Insights

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities across programs, fundraising, engagement, and operations.
  • Apply statistical methods to evaluate program effectiveness, measure outcomes, and support continuous improvement.
  • Develop rubrics to support evaluation and assessment.
  • Design and analyze surveys to assess program performance as well as community needs, satisfaction, and impact.
  • Review surveys and studies (internal and external) to provide recommendations

Reporting & Data Visualization

  • Create clear, compelling dashboards, visualizations, and reports for diverse audiences, including staff, leadership, funders, and board members.
  • Translate complex findings into accessible narratives that connect data to mission and strategy.
  • Ensure reports are timely, accurate, and aligned with organizational goals.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Partner with colleagues across departments to understand business questions and translate them into analytical approaches.
  • Present insights through written reports, slide decks, and oral presentations.
  • Support a culture of data‑informed decision‑making by helping colleagues understand and use data confidently.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve data systems, workflows, and reporting processes.
  • Stay current with data analysis tools, visualization techniques, and nonprofit data best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in data science, statistics or related field.
  • Experience with data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Experience working with databases or CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python or R for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit, philanthropic, or membership‑based organizations.
  • Experience analyzing fundraising, donor, engagement, or program impact data.
  • Understanding of data privacy, ethics, and stewardship of sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with Jewish customs, traditions, and community life, or a willingness to learn, is preferred
  • Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Greater Washington (DC, MD, and Northern VA) region. This is a hybrid position, with 3 days a week required in our headquarters
