About the role

We file this job under Analyst, by the work the posting describes.

Analysts answer business questions with data. They pull numbers with SQL, build reports and dashboards, and explain what changed and why to the people making decisions.

Most postings ask for SQL, spreadsheets, a dashboard tool such as Tableau or Power BI, and clear writing.

Unlike a data scientist, an analyst mostly explains what happened rather than building models that predict what will.

  • Recommend the right approach for each problem, whether descriptive or diagnostic analysis, reporting and visualisation, predictive modelling, machine learning, generative AI or workflow automation.
  • Deliver Hands-On Analysis and Insight
  • Frame analytical questions, develop hypotheses, select appropriate methods and validate findings before drawing conclusions.
  • Convert analysis into practical recommendations, explaining the business implications, limitations and actions required.
  • Identify opportunities where advanced analytics, machine learning, generative AI or agentic capabilities could improve underwriting effectiveness, portfolio management, operational efficiency or customer outcomes.
  • Shape solution concepts and technical requirements, including use cases, user journeys, required data, model or AI behaviour, controls, evaluation criteria and expected business value.
  • Rapidly prototype analytical and AI-enabled solutions to test feasibility and value before wider development.
  • Work with Data Scientists and AI Engineers to support model development, testing, validation, deployment and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Ensure solutions are explainable, fit-for-purpose and developed in line with AXIS data, AI governance, security and responsible AI requirements.
