Description

SUMMARY:

The Modeling & Analytics Specialist supports VSE Aviation's asset management function by tracking, analyzing, and modeling the market value, demand trends, and risk exposure of company inventories. This role monitors external market factors that influence inventory value, similar to equity market dynamics, and translates that market intelligence into actionable insights for product line teams. The role partners closely with product line leadership to ensure investment decisions and inventory actions are informed by timely, accurate data. In addition to market and valuation analysis, this role supports the maintenance and enhancement of the modeling tools used to support these decisions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Market & Value Tracking

  • Monitor and track market factors, trends, and demand signals affecting the value of company inventories by product line
  • Track and analyze historical and real-time value trends to identify emerging risk or opportunity
  • Maintain data sources and benchmarks used to assess inventory value against market conditions

Analytics & Modeling

  • Maintain and enhance financial/valuation models used to assess inventory investment performance
  • Build bid and margin scenario models (e.g., conservative/recommended/aggressive pricing tiers) and cashflow/payback timelines to support pricing and investment decisions
  • Ensure modeling outputs are accurate, timely, and reflective of current market conditions
  • Apply data confidence methodologies (e.g., weighting by repair history depth and sales-history match quality) to strengthen the reliability of model outputs
  • Partner with IT/data teams as needed to support tool infrastructure, data feeds, and automation

Investment & Risk Support

  • Translate market and valuation data into clear recommendations for product line teams on inventory actions
  • Support the development of bid recommendations (e.g., asset packages, teardown lots) with supporting cost, revenue, and margin analysis for leadership review
  • Support decision-making to maximize value capture in rising markets and minimize loss exposure in declining markets
  • Track outcomes of inventory actions against model predictions to refine forecasting accuracy over time

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Provide analytics support to product line teams on matters of inventory valuation and market positioning
  • Present findings, trends, and recommendations to leadership on a recurring basis
  • Collaborate with Finance, Asset Management, and product line stakeholders to apply consistent data definitions and reporting standards

Tool Support

  • Support the ongoing maintenance, testing, and enhancement of modeling tools used by the team
  • Identify and recommend improvements to modeling methodology, data integrity, and tool usability
  • Document modeling logic and assumptions for continuity and audit purposes
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable business recommendations.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior related internship experience.
  • Experience in asset management, inventory management, or a related investment function.
  • Familiarity with aviation, aerospace, or industrial parts markets.
  • Experience building or maintaining financial/valuation models.
