Principal Data Scientist

The Principal Data Scientist is a seasoned professional role. Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and work-flow for the area or function. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Excellent communication and diplomacy skills are required. Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams. Involved in coaching and training of new recruits. Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.

Responsibilities:

• Hands on design and orchestration of AI solutions to evaluate, recommend, and support the implementation of business strategies
• Mentor a small team (2-5 people) and guide them in fundamental system design principles w.r.t. Gen AI/Agentic AI pipelines/workflows
• Incumbents work with large and complex data sets (both internal and external data) to evaluate, recommend, and support the implementation of business strategies
• Responsible for documenting data requirements, data collection / processing / cleaning, and exploratory data analysis; which may include utilizing statistical models / algorithms and data visualization techniques
• Incumbents in this role may often be referred to as Data Scientists
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

• 8-12 years of experience
• In depth understanding of deep learning concepts, sequence to sequence models and building recommendations using explainable AI
• Hands on experience in design and implementation of Gen AI/Agentic AI workflows in production environments
• Hands on experience of working on scalable deep learning models across multiple projects in analytical brainstorming, developing and setting required governance around the same
• Must have the ability to retrieve and manipulation data
• Advanced analytic ability and problem solving skills to proactively address business questions with innovative data driven solutions
• Ability to build partnerships with cross-functional teams in order
• Working experience in a quantitative field, Financial/Credit Card industry
• Willing to learn and can-do attitude
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be organized, detail oriented, flexible and adaptive to matrix work environment

Education:

• Bachelors/University degree or equivalent experience
