About the role

We file this job under Data Engineer, by the work the posting describes.

Data engineers build and run the pipelines that copy data out of apps and outside services into a warehouse or lake, and fix them when a source changes or a load fails.

Expect SQL, Python, a cloud platform, a scheduler such as Airflow, and often tools for large data such as Spark or Kafka.

An analytics engineer works one step later, turning the raw data a data engineer lands into clean tables people can query.

As a Merchant Services Data Platform team, we drive the vision, strategy, and execution for a scalable, secure, and high-performance data platform—enabling internal and external clients to access, analyze, and operationalize data through robust APIs, self-service tools, and managed services, supporting diverse analytics and reporting needs across the payment’s ecosystem.

As a Product Associate on the Data Platform team, you are the vital link between our Merchant Services product teams and the data that powers them. You bring curiosity, execution, and sharp analytical instincts to uncover what data exists, identify gaps, and help shape a single source of truth—turning scattered data into a trusted foundation the business can rely on. Working hands-on with Snowflake, you will help teams find the data they need, when they need it, while contributing to the evolution of how data is discovered, trusted, and used across the organization.

Job responsibilities
  • Gather, clarify, and document data requirements from product teams and other stakeholders across the payment’s ecosystem
  • Identify existing data sources, gaps, dependencies, and opportunities to improve data discoverability and usability within your assigned domain
  • Translate business needs into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and workflow documentation
  • Partner with product managers, engineering teams, data stakeholders, and business users to support backlog refinement, prioritization, and delivery
  • Directly query data warehouse to investigate data existence, identifying duplicate, overlapping, or inconsistent data sources
  • Triage incoming data requests: assess intent, determine what existing data can be repurposed, and scope what requires new build
  • Work with stakeholders to define data elements, business terms, metrics, and reporting requirements
  • Contribute to documentation, data catalogs, reporting materials, and self-service resources
  • Support release readiness, user acceptance testing, stakeholder communications, and post-release activities
  • leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate data discovery, duplicate detection, and metadata documentation across your assigned domain

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Bachelor's degree required in business, computer science, data analytics, engineering, economics, or a related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in product management, product operations, business analysis, analytics, technology, or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of the product development lifecycle
  • Basic familiarity with SQL, data concepts, databases, APIs, or data platforms
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate ambiguous questions
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear requirements, documentation, and actionable next steps
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with product, engineering, data, and business stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Comfort learning and applying AI-assisted tools (e.g., for data discovery, summarization, or documentation) in day-to-day work
  • Experience with Snowflake or a similar modern cloud data platform

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Exposure to data quality, data governance, data lineage, metadata, access controls, or data discoverability
  • Familiarity with APIs, data pipelines, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, or analytics workflows
  • Exposure to self-service analytics, reporting, semantic layers, data catalogs, or reusable metrics
  • Experience supporting product discovery, requirements definition, backlog management, or Agile delivery
  • Exposure to payments, merchant acquiring, or financial services
  • Ability to communicate technical data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Exposure to AI/LLM-based tools for data analysis, documentation, or workflow automation
