About the role

We file this job under Data Scientist, by the work the posting describes.

Data scientists use statistics and models to answer harder questions, such as whether a change worked, what demand will look like next quarter, or which customers are likely to leave.

Postings usually ask for Python or R, SQL, statistics, experiment design and common machine learning methods.

Unlike an ML engineer, a data scientist's main output is often an analysis or a first model, not software running inside a product.

Job Description

We are currently looking for a new colleague to join the Algorithmic Trading & Research team of the Ignitis Group. We trade power in wholesale and ancillary services markets and manage the largest solar generation and consumption portfolios in the Baltics. We're expanding our flexible asset portfolio quickly with stand-alone battery storage (BESS), solar and wind. We're also making our existing portfolio flexible through demand-side response and residential PV and battery systems. Your job will be to build data-driven trading strategies that get the most value out of this flexibility. If that speaks to you, we’d be happy to welcome you to our team!

Take YOUR part in #EnergySmart!

You will contribute to secure and green energy ecosystem creation by:

  • Developing, backtesting, and validating new asset-backed trading strategies, then working with our trading engineers to put them into production
  • Improving and maintaining the trading algorithms we already run
  • Tracking the daily performance of the algorithms, identifying areas for improvement, and enhancing them accordingly
  • Working with one of two portfolios: Residential and Business Flexibility or Large-Scale Renewables and Battery Energy Storage Systems and/or Hybrid Parks

Qualifications

  • A degree in physics, mathematics, computer science or another quantitative field from a reputable university
  • Hands-on experience with Python, SQL and Git
  • Work experience in a quantitative role, with a proven record of contributing to technically demanding projects
  • Great communication skills in English (writing and speaking)

Would be an advantage:

  • Experience in power markets
  • Experience with linear and stochastic optimization
  • Familiarity with Linux and Apache Airflow

Additional Information

  • Compensation corresponding to experience and competencies, and financial incentives dependent on achieved results
  • A package of additional benefits to choose from: pension accumulation, health insurance, or another benefit from the selectable benefits list in the MELP application
  • Additional paid days for health improvement, short-term illness, volunteering, and accumulated work experience
  • Accident insurance
  • A hybrid work model (3+2) and flexible working hours
  • The opportunity to engage in the internal initiative GROW academy – to become lecturers or participate in training
  • Take part in an unfolding energy transformation process to create a 100% secure and green energy ecosystem for both current and future generations

Join a growing and increasingly international team of energy smart people united by a common purpose. We all play our part in creating a 100 % secure and green energy ecosystem for current and future generations.

And the way to achieve this is certainly not to wait for the perfect moment. We believe that the power to act comes from the charge we bring to our work every day. United by purpose. Owning the challenge. Passion for reinvention. Pursuing excellence. These are our mindsets. Together, they yield the energy that drives everything we do. The energy generated by our choices. If you are guided by the same mindsets – we look forward to welcoming you to our team!

As we pursue our strategic goals to increase gender balance in Ignitis Group, we are indicating “f/m/d” next to job titles, meaning we welcome candidates of all genders – female, male or diverse.

Ignitis Group ensures equal opportunities. We welcome all applicants and do not discriminate against race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity, age, disability or other personal traits unrelated to work obligations.
