About the role
As Senior Commercial Insights Analyst within the FP&A team, you will use complex data to identify the commercial drivers of business performance and translate your findings into clear, practical recommendations.
Working across the business and with senior decision-makers, you will help shape decisions on client profitability, new opportunities, forecasting and broader commercial performance.
We value analytical ability, curiosity, ownership and commercial judgement more than a specific industry background or qualification, with relevant achievements carrying greater weight than formal credentials.
What you'll do
Commercial Analysis and Decision Support
- Analyse complex datasets to understand the underlying drivers of client and wider business performance.
- Analyse commercial performance across areas such as client profitability, payments, shipping and cost-to-serve, including specific analysis of payment acceptance, PSP and acquiring costs, merchant service charges and chargebacks where relevant.
- Support the assessment of new business deals, including pricing, expected profitability, key assumptions and commercial risks.
- Build models, bespoke analysis and scenarios from first principles to answer new commercial questions and support decision-making.
- Turn detailed analysis into clear conclusions and recommendations to support senior management decision-making.
Business Planning and Performance Insights
- Support budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning by connecting financial outcomes with relevant commercial and operational drivers.
- Work with teams across the business to test assumptions and improve the quality of forecasts and business cases.
- Support priority analysis and presentations for the Executive team and Board.
- Improve recurring analysis and reporting so that it provides meaningful insight rather than simply presenting data.
- Work through data-quality issues and conflicting information to establish a reliable view of performance.
Business Partnering and Delivery
- Build strong working relationships across Finance, Commercial, Product, Payments, Operations and Technology.
- Take ownership of complex commercial questions, defining the issue, determining the analysis required and engaging the right people.
- Bring structure and momentum to ambiguous projects, following analysis through to a clear recommendation and agreed action.
- Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
What we're looking for
- Hands-on analytical capability, including independently accessing, manipulating and interpreting large or complex datasets.
- Sound commercial judgement, with an ability to connect detailed analysis to broader business implications and clear recommendations.
- A track record of owning complex questions, collaborating effectively with stakeholders and forming an independent, evidence-based view.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain complex findings simply and concisely.
- Intellectual curiosity and a natural inclination to ask “why?”, investigating until the underlying issue is understood.
- An ability to turn poorly defined business questions into structured analysis and clear recommendations.
- A talent for finding the commercial story within complex datasets, with confidence working through the detail.
- A willingness to challenge the obvious answer when the evidence points elsewhere.
- A balanced approach to analytical rigour and commercial pace, recognising when further analysis will improve a decision and when it will not.
- Desirable: Advanced Excel modelling and proficiency in SQL, Power BI or equivalent analytical tools.
- Desirable: A background in commercial finance, FP&A, payments, fintech, ecommerce, consulting or another commercially analytical environment, particularly involving complex data, transaction economics or commercial decision-making.
- A professional accounting qualification would be welcomed but is not required.
