About the role

We file this job under Data Engineer, by the work the posting describes.

Data engineers build and run the pipelines that copy data out of apps and outside services into a warehouse or lake, and fix them when a source changes or a load fails.

Expect SQL, Python, a cloud platform, a scheduler such as Airflow, and often tools for large data such as Spark or Kafka.

An analytics engineer works one step later, turning the raw data a data engineer lands into clean tables people can query.

Shape the data platform behind millions of workouts

You don’t want to just build pipelines.

You want to help set the direction and raise the bar together with your team.

You want to see decisions being made because of what you built.

At Basic-Fit, your data solutions support millions of members across Europe. What you design today will be used tomorrow by teams in operations, marketing, finance, and beyond.

This Is What Your Role Looks Like

You’ll join the central Data Platform Team and play a key role in the foundation of Basic-Fit’s data landscape, helping set the direction while also building it hands-on.

In a typical week, you might:

  • design and build scalable batch and streaming pipelines in Databricks
  • co-own architectural decisions and help set standards for engineering, CI/CD and platform best practices
  • take a driving role in the migration of legacy pipelines to a modern Databricks platform
  • drive performance, cost, governance, and reliability across the platform
  • evaluate and introduce new Databricks capabilities (Lakeflow Connect, Databricks Apps, dashboards) and take them from idea to production
  • use AI and agents to automate engineering work and improve data quality
  • share your knowledge with medior and junior engineers through code reviews and pairing

Good ideas don’t stay in slide decks here - they get built, and you’ll help build them.

The team you’ll work with

You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary Data Platform Team with:

  • Data Platform Engineers
  • Analysts
  • BI Developers
  • Data Scientists

Together, you support almost every department at Basic-Fit, enabling teams to act on reliable, well-governed data. As a senior, you’ll be a go-to person for colleagues and stakeholders, while working side by side with the rest of the team.

Who Are You?

You don’t need to tick every box. You will thrive here if most of this sounds familiar:

  • 3+ years of hands-on Databricks experience in production
  • Strong SQL, PySpark and Python, with a track record of clean, tested, maintainable code
  • Experience building and running production pipelines, both batch and streaming (e.g. Lakeflow/Delta Live Tables, Structured Streaming, Azure Data Factory)
  • Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure as code (e.g. Azure DevOps, Terraform, Databricks Asset Bundles)
  • Solid knowledge of data modelling, governance, security and cost optimisation on a cloud data platform
  • Experience contributing to architectural decisions or migrations, and explaining trade-offs to technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Bonus points: experience applying AI and LLMs to data engineering, keeping up with new Databricks features, mentoring other engineers, and Power BI or another reporting tool.
