See Yourself in our Team

The Provisioning & Portfolio Insights team sit within Business Banking Risk Management, providing the analytics and portfolio intelligence that help senior leaders understand the credit health of our Business Banking portfolios. The team are responsible for monitoring and reporting credit provisions, developing self-service portfolio dashboards and delivering portfolio insights through key executive and risk forums, including the Business Banking Chief Risk Office and senior executive risk governance forums.

Through analytical investigation and strong commercial judgement, we identify emerging risks, interrogate unusual movements and translate complex findings into meaningful intelligence that helps senior leaders anticipate risk and make better-informed decisions.

Your Impact and Contribution

As Senior Manager, Portfolio Insights, your work will combine analytical expertise, commercial judgement and intellectual curiosity to interpret emerging signals and connect the dots between data, the external environment and the credit risks facing Business Banking. You will own complex portfolio investigations, interpret patterns and interrogate anomalies, translating complex findings into clear implications and potential responses. Your insights will inform your development of comprehensive reporting and real-time metrics dashboards consumed by key strategists and executive stakeholders.

This is an end-to-end role, working across data exploration, portfolio monitoring, analytical investigation and visualisation through to recommendations and papers for senior risk forums.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Analyse the Business Banking credit portfolio to identify trends, anomalies, concentrations and emerging risk signals, using data to understand not only what is changing, but the underlying drivers and potential implications.
  • Investigate emerging risk signals in depth, drawing on credit risk expertise and analytical techniques to test hypotheses, challenge assumptions and determine where further investigation or action may be required.
  • Connect portfolio insights with the wider business environment, bringing industry, economic, socio-economic and geopolitical context to your analysis to understand how external developments may affect customers, industries and credit risk.
  • Develop deep, comprehensive portfolio intelligence and SME reporting, bringing together quantitative analysis, credit risk judgement and external context to provide senior leaders with a clear view of emerging risks, their drivers and potential implications.
  • Build intuitive dashboards and visualisations that translate complex portfolio data into consumable, real-time metrics and risk insights, enabling senior stakeholders to readily identify and explore areas requiring attention.
  • Translate complex analysis into clear recommendations and executive-level narratives, contributing insights and papers to senior risk forums and helping inform portfolio strategy and risk responses.
  • Provide analytical and technical leadership across the team, shaping analytical approaches, challenging methodologies and coaching managers and analysts to strengthen the quality of investigation, insight and communication.

Equally comfortable with quantitative analysis and qualitative nuance, you can connect portfolio performance with customer behaviour, economic conditions, industry trends and broader external developments to form balanced, evidence-based recommendations. You’ll combine strong analytical capability with commercial pragmatism to constructively challenge thinking, bring new perspectives to complex problems and influence strategic direction and operational outcomes.

In summary, you’ll bring:

  • Strong experience across advanced analytics, portfolio insights, commercial credit risk, econometrics, business strategy or another relevant quantitative discipline, with a track record of using data to inform complex business decisions.
  • Experience developing robust, defensible reporting for senior executive audiences, with the ability to clearly articulate the evidence, assumptions and judgement underpinning your conclusions.
  • Excellent critical-thinking capability, with experience framing ambiguous problems, wrangling complex data and using evidence to develop well-reasoned insights.
  • The ability to connect portfolio data with the wider commercial, economic and industry environment and translate those connections into meaningful business and risk implications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex analysis into clear narratives and recommendations for senior technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The judgement and confidence to challenge assumptions, ask difficult questions and pursue an issue when the data suggests there is more to understand.
  • Experience leading complex analytical work, conducting critical data peer reviews and developing the capability of others.
  • Experience with R, Python, SQL, R Shiny, Tableau, Power BI or large-scale enterprise data platforms will be valuable.
  • Tertiary education in Economics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or another quantitative discipline would be highly regarded.
  • Experience within Business Banking, Commercial Banking, Institutional Banking or portfolio credit risk would be particularly valuable.
