We support a wide range of digital payments choices, making transactions secure, simple, smart and accessible. Our technology and innovation, partnerships and networks combine to deliver a unique set of products and services that help people, businesses and governments realize their greatest potential.

Title and Summary

Software Engineer II | Data & AI Platform

Who is Mastercard?

Mastercard is a global technology company in the payments industry. Our mission is to connect and power an inclusive, digital economy that benefits everyone, everywhere by making transactions safe, simple, smart, and accessible. Using secure data and networks, partnerships and passion, our innovations and solutions help individuals, financial institutions, governments, and businesses realize their greatest potential.

Our decency quotient, or DQ, drives our culture and everything we do inside and outside of our company. With connections across more than 210 countries and territories, we are building a sustainable world that unlocks priceless possibilities for all.

Overview

Data Foundations, part of Business & Market Insights, solves shared data problems for Mastercard's analytics products: secure customer data exchange, consistent business definitions and metrics, reference datasets, data quality and AI-assisted customer data onboarding. Engineering and product set direction together, and we own outcomes, not just delivery. Where enterprise platforms fit, we reuse and shape them. Where there is a shared gap, we solve it once.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our growing Pune-based team. You will start with reliable ingestion of customer and third-party data, independently delivering defined components and working with senior engineers on bigger design decisions. This role focuses on platform software and automation; if you mainly build data transformations and datasets, see our Data Engineer II role. In your first few months you will deliver scoped features and fixes, join production support and automate a manual operational step.

Role

- Build, test and operate services, APIs, connectors and automation for customer data exchange, workspace setup and pipeline orchestration.
- Deliver defined components independently, from technical approach through release, monitoring and support.
- Write automated tests and useful documentation.
- Replace manual operational steps with code.
- Investigate production issues, fix defects and support root cause analysis.
- Break down and estimate work, give input on design, feasibility and risk, and give and receive code review feedback.

All About You

- Intermediate skills in Python or another language such as Java, Scala or C#/.NET, plus working SQL.
- Knowledge of source control, automated testing, secure coding, code review and CI/CD.
- Experience building software on a public cloud; we use AWS and Databricks.
- Interest in data platforms and how data moves between systems.
- Product curiosity: you ask who needs the work and why.
- Clear communication and practical use of AI tools, with sound judgement on when to trust their output.

Desirable:
- Experience with Spark or Snowflake.
- Experience with REST APIs, cloud storage integrations, or C#/.NET and React-based tooling.
- Experience exchanging data with external partners through cloud storage, SFTP or APIs.
- Experience with infrastructure as code or deployment automation.
