To continue this incredible adventure, we are currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our talented Data Platform team, full-time (40 hours/week) and a minimum 3 days per week (Tuesday-Thursday) at our Berlin HQ. Grover's Data Platform team is mid-transformation, migrating from Redshift, Tableau, and Redash to Snowflake, dbt, Looker, Airflow, and Airbyte while also moving from centralized to decentralized analytics. You'll report to the Data Platform Lead and take ownership of the most complex, high-volume data pipelines and automations, as well as the data infrastructure across the platform, working alongside senior Analytics Engineers and another Senior Data Engineer. This is a hands-on role with real influence over how Grover's data infrastructure is built for the long term. 🎯 What you will contribute:
- Ingestion & Processing: Architect, scale, and maintain high-volume ingestion pipelines, including preprocessing and parsing complex payloads before landing in the warehouse. - Platform Automation & Migration: Build end-to-end automations across AWS (S3), Airflow, and the cloud data warehouse while stabilizing, documenting, and migrating legacy data flows. - Orchestration Ownership: Own and evolve Apache Airflow as a platform, driving version upgrades, configuration, and architectural best practices.
- Data Platforms & Orchestration: Hands-on production experience with modern cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and Apache Airflow. - Cloud & IaC: Proven experience designing cloud data infrastructure (ideally AWS) and provisioning scalable environments using Terraform. - Engineering Best Practices: Solid track record with Git, testing frameworks, CI/CD, proactive documentation, and reducing technical debt.

About the role

We file this job under Data Engineer, by the work the posting describes.

Data engineers build and run the pipelines that copy data out of apps and outside services into a warehouse or lake, and fix them when a source changes or a load fails.

Expect SQL, Python, a cloud platform, a scheduler such as Airflow, and often tools for large data such as Spark or Kafka.

An analytics engineer works one step later, turning the raw data a data engineer lands into clean tables people can query.

About Grover

Founded in 2015, Grover enables consumers and businesses across Europe to subscribe to tech devices and comprehensive technology solutions - from individual smartphones, laptops, and wearables to full corporate device setups. The company offers access to over 1,000 unique tech items on flexible and financially convenient terms. A pioneer of the circular economy, Grover refurbishes and recirculates devices to help eliminate e-waste.

  • Ingestion & Processing: Architect, scale, and maintain high-volume ingestion pipelines, including preprocessing and parsing complex payloads before landing in the warehouse.
  • Platform Automation & Migration: Build end-to-end automations across AWS (S3), Airflow, and the cloud data warehouse while stabilizing, documenting, and migrating legacy data flows.
  • Orchestration Ownership: Own and evolve Apache Airflow as a platform, driving version upgrades, configuration, and architectural best practices.
  • Observability & Reliability: Implement monitoring, alerting, resource tracking, and automated data quality checks, diagnosing pipeline issues at the root cause.
  • Performance & FinOps Ownership: Take active responsibility for the data platform's costs (e.g., Snowflake credits). You will optimize warehouse performance and build systems to track compute usage down to the individual user level, ensuring all ~30 data champions are operating efficiently and accountable for the costs they generate.
  • Architecture & Enablement: Serve as a senior technical voice on platform decisions and enable decentralized analytics by building a platform that serves ~30 data champions.

🤝 What you bring:

  • Experience & Core Tech: 5+ years in data engineering with deep proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ELT design patterns, ideally within dynamic tech companies.
  • Data Platforms & Orchestration: Hands-on production experience with modern cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and Apache Airflow.
  • Cloud & IaC: Proven experience designing cloud data infrastructure (ideally AWS) and provisioning scalable environments using Terraform.
  • Engineering Best Practices: Solid track record with Git, testing frameworks, CI/CD, proactive documentation, and reducing technical debt.
  • FinOps Discipline & Mentality: A strong cost-ownership mindset. Beyond standard compute sizing and storage management, you have experience in (or see the value in) building usage tracking, attributing costs to specific users or queries, and proactively staying on top of the platform's cost optimization.
  • Business Mindset & Collaboration: Pragmatic systems thinker who translates business requirements into technical solutions and communicates effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communication & Language: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, which is our company language.
  • Nice-to-haves: Hands-on experience with dbt, Kubernetes, and Kafka.

🚀 The Grover Way - How We Drive Success:

  • Own It: We take ownership seriously and define what success looks like. We drive shared ownership and don't wait - we drive. We keep one another accountable and take responsibility when issues arise.
  • Challenge, Decide, and Commit: We engage in proactive support, active listening, and healthy conflict to reach the best outcomes. We value diverse perspectives and, once a decision is made, we commit to it fully.
  • Empower and Grow: We enable, trust, and coach one another toward high performance, always thinking and acting like owners. We seek growth, apply feedback, and support the development of our peers.
  • Respect, Transparency, and Clarity: We strive for clear, respectful, and open communication with no surprises. We simplify complex information so everyone knows the "what, why, and how".

❤️‍🔥 What you will love about us:
