About the role

We file this job under Data Leadership, by the work the posting describes.

Data leaders run data teams or design how a company's data fits together. Managers hire, set priorities and answer for whether the data work pays off; architects choose the systems and the shape of the data.

Expect years of hands-on data work, experience leading people or projects, and the ability to explain tradeoffs to executives.

Unlike a senior engineer or analyst, most of a data leader's week goes to people, planning and decisions rather than building.

The rewards at Healogics are immense, starting with the important work we do to change patients’ lives. We also understand that meaningful work is hard work, and we are committed to supporting and compensating our employees for the tremendous service they provide.

Think you are a great fit? Learn more about this role here:

Healogics is the largest provider of advanced wound care services in the United States, treating more than 300,000 chronic wound patients annually across over 600 sites. With an aging society, obesity and diabetes on the rise, and an increase in surgical procedures, the number of patients with non-healing wounds who would benefit from expert care is growing. The company is focused on extending its differentiated, quality outcomes to as many patients as possible through its outpatient clinic partnerships.

The Vice President, Data & AI is responsible for defining and executing Healogics' enterprise data and artificial intelligence strategy, architecture, operating model, and roadmap. This leader will bring together data engineering, reporting and analytics, applied AI, and solution development capabilities into a coordinated portfolio aligned to business priorities and measurable outcomes.

The Vice President will serve as the Chief Information Officer's senior technical and strategic leader for Data and AI. This role requires deep technical expertise and the ability to work at both the executive and detailed solution-design level. The Vice President must be able to evaluate and challenge data and AI architectures, data models, semantic layers, pipelines, integrations, APIs, analytics solutions, and AI design patterns, identifying weaknesses, unnecessary complexity, scalability concerns, and technical risk. The leader must have the technical credibility to effectively guide and challenge experienced engineers, architects, developers, and vendors while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, reusable, supportable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

This leader will assess and develop the Data and AI organization, establish clear technical and architectural standards, clarify accountabilities, and manage priorities across the portfolio. Working closely with executives, clinical and operational leaders, and technology teams, the Vice President will translate complex or ambiguous business needs into clear strategies, architectures, roadmaps, and solutions, while making sound build, buy, partner, and reuse decisions.

All Healogics employees must perform their job responsibilities according to all Healogics policies, hospital policies, applicable accrediting organization standards, federal and state regulations, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services guidelines.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Define, own, and communicate the enterprise Data and AI strategy, target capabilities, operating model, roadmap, investment priorities, and measures of success.
  • Lead and develop the Data and AI organization, including data engineering, reporting and analytics, applied AI, and related solution development capabilities; clarify roles, decision rights, and accountability for outcomes.
  • Assess the current organization, talent, platforms, delivery model, and portfolio; recommend and implement changes that improve focus, technical quality, speed, and business value.
  • Serve as the senior solution design and technical review authority for Data and AI initiatives, evaluating solution architectures, data models, semantic layers, pipelines, integrations, APIs, analytics and AI design patterns to ensure solutions are practical, secure, scalable, reusable, supportable, and proportionate to the business problem.
  • Challenge technical assumptions and proposed designs, identify overengineering and unnecessary custom development, and ensure teams use existing enterprise capabilities where appropriate.
  • Establish and enforce architecture and engineering standards across data modeling, semantic layers, data pipelines, integration, APIs, AI, security, privacy, testing, monitoring, documentation, deployment, and production support.
  • Translate enterprise and business strategies into a prioritized portfolio of Data and AI initiatives based on business value, feasibility, risk, dependencies, cost, and team capacity.
  • Partner with executives and business leaders to discover and define high-value opportunities, clarify desired outcomes, and determine whether the appropriate response is data, analytics, AI, automation, application capability, process change, or a combination.
  • Own the strategy and architecture for enterprise reporting and analytics, including semantic models, common business definitions, metrics, data quality, and trusted, reusable data products that support consistent decision-making across the organization.
  • Provide strategic and architectural oversight of the enterprise data platform and Databricks roadmap, while holding Data Engineering leadership accountable for detailed platform architecture, engineering, implementation, reliability, performance, security, governance, and operations.
  • Guide applied AI solution strategy, architecture, and delivery, including generative AI, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, model and vendor selection, evaluation, responsible AI, security, and production readiness.
  • Make and govern build, buy, partner, and reuse decisions; evaluate technology and vendor options and ensure investments align with enterprise architecture and sustainable support models.
  • Develop strong technical leaders and builders through clear direction, coaching, constructive design challenge, and accountability for both technical quality and measurable business outcomes.
  • Communicate strategy, priorities, architecture decisions, trade-offs, risks, progress, and recommendations in clear business language to executive leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets, vendors, implementation partners, and external resources, ensuring delivery accountability, knowledge transfer, documentation, and sustainable internal ownership.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, data science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience across software engineering, data engineering, data architecture, solution architecture, artificial intelligence, analytics, or related technology disciplines, including 7+ years in leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and executing enterprise Data and AI strategies, roadmaps, operating models, and investment priorities.
  • Significant prior hands-on experience as a software engineer, data engineer, data architect, solution architect, or similarly technical practitioner, with demonstrated ability to remain technically current and credibly evaluate and challenge complex solution designs.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or providing technical leadership for modern enterprise data architectures, including data modeling, data pipelines, semantic layers, integration, analytics, and cloud data platforms.
  • Experience leading multiple technical capabilities or teams and developing senior technical leaders.
  • Experience taking data, analytics, AI, or software solutions from business problem definition through architecture, delivery, production support, adoption, and measurable value.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed architecture and design reviews, identify weak design patterns, unnecessary complexity, scalability and supportability concerns, and guide technical teams toward practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Strong understanding of modern data platforms; knowledge of Databricks architecture and capabilities is preferred but not required. Ability to create strategy, define target capabilities, build actionable roadmaps, and translate direction into a prioritized portfolio and clear accountability.
  • Strong business and commercial judgment, including the ability to evaluate value, cost, feasibility, risk, capacity, and build-versus-buy trade-offs.
  • Ability to enter ambiguous situations, identify the underlying problem, develop an independent point of view, and make clear recommendations.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts, decisions, and risks in concise business language.
  • Ability to work effectively at both executive and technical levels, moving comfortably between enterprise strategy discussions and detailed solution-design reviews.
  • Proven ability to organize, lead, coach, and develop diverse teams of architects, engineers, analysts, developers, and other technical professionals.
  • Collaborative leadership style combined with the confidence to challenge teams, stop low-value work, resolve priorities, and hold leaders accountable for results.
