Where to find your status
Go to the employer’s own Workday careers site, the one you applied through, and sign in with the account you made when you applied. Candidate Home lists your applications under two tabs, Active and Inactive.
Every Workday employer has its own site and its own account. If you applied to three companies on Workday, you have three accounts, and each one shows only that company’s applications.
What each status means
Inside Workday, recruiters move you through stages and steps: review, screen, interview, offer. You don’t see those. Workday shows you a short status instead, and many stages share one status.
- SubmittedActive tab
- The employer has your application and it sits in the first review stage. Nobody may have opened it yet.
- In ProgressActive tab
- You have moved past first review into a later stage: a screen, an interview, an assessment or offer paperwork. Workday doesn’t show you which one.
- CompletedInactive tab
- The process has ended for you. Either the employer moved you out of consideration, or the job itself was canceled. Both look the same from your side.
- WithdrewInactive tab
- You withdrew your application.
If the employer freezes the job, your status stays wherever it was.
This mapping comes from the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s HR guide, the one Workday employer we found that publishes how its internal stages show up for candidates. Workday lets each employer set this up, so another company may use different words.
Your status can change without an email
Moving you to Completed, or canceling the job, doesn’t send you anything on its own. UW–Madison’s guide tells its recruiters to send a message separately if they want you to know. So a silent inbox doesn’t mean you’re still in the running. Check Candidate Home.
Check whether the job is still posted
A long stretch of Submitted tells you little by itself. What helps is whether the job is still up. If the employer has taken the posting down and you are still at Submitted, the role has likely been filled or closed.
Every job on Wait, What Do You Do? shows when we first saw it on the employer’s site and whether it is still listed. Paste the link into Check a job to see that record for any posting, and track your applications with follow-up reminders on your Applications page.
Is Workday an applicant tracking system?
Yes. Workday Recruiting is the hiring part of Workday’s HR software, and it runs about three in ten of the jobs on our board, more than any other system. It reads your resume into its form when you apply. See what Workday and other hiring systems do with your resume.
