Your Role:
As the Manager – Material Handling Engineering, you’ll be working with some of the industry’s brightest minds to architect material handling, material & factory flow, packaging & warehousing, from design to implementation. The selected candidate will have hands on expertise developing material flow, warehouse design, material handling, factory flow, and packaging. The candidate will also have expertise in developing material flow systems & methods for high volume, fast paced automotive environment, with excellence in lean manufacturing & kaizen activities.. Basically, you’ll ensure that below responsibilities are successfully completed:
- Responsible to develop, manage & maintain, Manufacturing/Factory potion of Plan for Every Part (receiving to lineside) that delivers the best cost/service solution for every part. This will require analysis of the volumes, take rates, packaging design, transportation network design & cubing analysis, warehouse design and the lineside material delivery flow design.
- Understand strategies, analyze options, develop solutions and present information for various ad hoc requests that impact all areas of logistics.
- Work closely with Corporate Supply Chain & Logistics, to ensure all material flow (external & internal), factory flow & transportation system functionality is configured to optimize material storage & flow performance at factory.
- Develop part flow from warehouse and internal material supply to POU (point of use) using lean manufacturing principles.
- Monitor and control material handling specifications, flow methodologies & systems to support production according to business systems requirement, to avoid bottleneck and constraints to free part supply flow.
- Establish work & method measurement tools and analyze work samples to develop standards for material hourly labor utilization. Maximize utilization of production facilities and logistics team members by restructuring job duties, workflow etc, while adhering to applicable laws, health and safety regulations.
- Properly utilize analytical tools, simulation & modeling, and other data driven tools to help in reduction of material lead time, improve productivity and improve accuracy of material deliverables.
- Research and recommend technologies to ensure new methods and processes support.
- Conduct/lead business process analysis to understand the Production Control & Logistics Organization and translate those needs into clear specifications. Engage logistics business process / IT to help convert needs into technology requirements.
- Perform Cost – Benefit analyses and develop ROI (return on investment) business case for projects.
- Forecast facility, storage, associate staffing and/or material handling equipment needs, to improve cost, utilization, service and efficiencies. Benchmark material handling equipment related to cost, efficiency, and utilization.
- Identify all necessary capital & variable expense items to support successful launch & support of operation.
- Participate in planning sessions with internal departments to validate requirements and processes. Determine and gain agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity.
- Partner with key functional groups that are part of implementation (HR, IT, Manufacturing, AME, Packaging Engineering, PC&L, etc. ) to develop Standard Operating Procedures.
- Facilitate LEAN methodology and recommend solutions to specific business cases. Understand and apply essential LEAN elements like line balancing, variance reduction, error/mistake proofing, waste elimination, etc.
- Work with manufacturing to help optimize total factory costs, including but not limited to workstation reduction, increased workstation density, with smart use of just-in-sequence, just in time, and other innovative material presentation methods.
- Create an optimized balance of stock at workstation, kit cell and storage locations to help optimize material delivery routes within factory to reduce congestion, improve safety and improved efficiency.
- Develop material pull & replenishment process for bulk, small lot, kit, fasteners and perishable items, which support lean methods, stocks with quality confirmation. Work with IT to help design the business process & implement.
- Educate staff & team members on Lean principles and develop a sustainable continuous improvement culture. Work with staff & leadership to drive kaizen events & workshops.
- Drive adherence to sustainability at multiple levels within the organization utilizing integrated process audits, floor level dashboards and KPI/Scorecards.
- Adept in the use of and utilize statistical tools, including & not limited to, Pareto Charts, Histograms, Cause & Effect diagrams, FMEA, etc to help quantify impact & drive process improvements. Drive use of value stream mapping or flow diagram to document workstreams and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and implement project activities, plans & timelines, coordinate suppliers/contractors, and any material handling/Facilities & equipment management. Help resolve problems in the area of responsibilities to ensure meeting of contractual commitments.
- Based on business case, capacity expansion, productivity improvement initiatives, project plan and implement automation in the areas of storage (e.g., ASRS), Dock automation, AGVs/AGCs, other warehouse automation, mobile equipment, aids/assists for kit/sequence cells.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, in engineering or equivalent. Equivalent & relevant experience will be considered
- 5+ years in each of these areas: Material Flow Engineering, Warehouse & lineside presentation design/implementation, material handling automation, packaging engineering design/development
- Able to analyze, qualify and quantify objectively issues, and through analysis & research able to identify root causes and solutions.
- Strong computer skills in MS office and CAD tools.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Good verbal, written communication, and presentation skills. Able to articulate findings, concepts, and ideas in a concise manner.
- Strong team orientation and cross functional attitude.
- Ability to create and present detailed and summary reports.
- Project skills, including analytics, implementation strategies, metric measurement and continuous monitoring or expectations and deliverables.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Annual Salary Range:
($120K - $152K DOE), plus benefits and incentive plans
